SIGMA PHI EPSILON LODGE 1969 - 2000
Interest in a fraternity house started back in the late 50s when Phi Sigma Chi bought half a city block just across the street from the East building. This is where we would end up building our first place winning snow statues. In the mid-60s the college decided they wanted our property to build housing for Ferris staff. So with the help of eminent domain they bought our lots. There's instructor housing located on the property now.
With the sale of the property SPE needed to look elsewhere for buildable land. It was decided to buy approximately 2 acres at the end of Perry Street which at the time that ended at our property.
The lodge was used during the 70s, 80s and 90s when Staples office outfitters made us an offer that we couldn't refuse. By this time the new 131 was extended north past big Rapids and it was decided that Perry Street would make a perfect exit. Perry was extended and the cost of real estate, along Perry, went through the roof. By the time Staples purchase the land the lodge had outlived its usefulness.
Thanks to brother Jeff Stewart for these great shots of the lodge....
